Admission

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

Much thought, prayer, and conversation precedes the inquirer seeking to apply for acceptance into the Order of Preachers. The Promoter of Vocations will need some basic information from a candidate, such as his age, whether or not he is still in school and whether he is interested in the cooperator brothers or priesthood. Over a period of several months, the interested candidate and the Promoter of Vocations will remain in regular contact. including scheduled visits with Dominicans of the Central Province, including a Come and See weekend in St. Louis.

During these months of initial contact, it will be important for a candidate to have a spiritual director who will help him listen to the call. If the call seems authentic to the candidate, to his spriritual director, and to the Promoter of Vocations, the candidate will ask for the Interview for Application. This interview is the first formal step in the application process. After completing this interview, if the Promoter of Vocations and the candidate are in agreement, the candidate will receive the Application Packet and will be asked to fill out various papers, collect letters of recommendation and certain documents and undergo psychological testing.

If the results seem to warrant it, the candidate will then be asked to attend an admissions board meeting during which the candidate will be interviewed by members of the province. The admissions board makes a recommendation to the Provincial who then makes an acceptance decision. If accepted, you become an admitted candidate for the novitiate.

PRE-NOVITIATE

Held in Denver, this is the time prior to arriving in Denver where the candidates receive the habit of St. Dominic and during which the men get a first-hand experience of life in the Order of Preachers. The men are introduced to the daily prayer routine of the Province and the way in which we sing. Several classes are held on many subjects and saints of the Order. This time is designed to give the candidates a running start as the novitiate approaches.
