Psalm 107                                                                                                    Saturday Readings 3

Thank Yahweh, for he is good, * eternal is his mercy.

Let those redeemed by Yahweh tell * how he redeemed them from the oppressor's hand,

and gathered them from the lands: * from the east and from the west, * from the north and from the southern sea.

They wandered in the wild; * in barren land they walked; * a town to stay in they did not find.

Hungry and thirsty, * their life ebbed from them.

Then they cried to Yahweh in their distress; * from their straits he rescued them.

He marched them on a straight road * till they came to a town to stay in.

Let them confess to Yahweh his mercy, * and his wonders to the children of men,

because he satisfied the throbbing throat, * and filled with good things the hungry throat.

As for those who dwelt in gloomy darkness, * fettered by torturing irons,

because they defied the commands of El, * spurned the counsel of the Most High,

he humbled their mind with hardship; * they stumbled with none to help them.

Then they cried to Yahweh in their distress; * from their straits he rescued them.

He brought them out of deathly darkness, * and their bonds he snapped.

Let them confess to Yahweh his mercy, * and his wonders to the children of men,

because he shattered doors of bronze, * and bars of iron he cut in two.

Weakened by their rebellious conduct, * they were punished for their iniquities.

All food their throats found so loathsome * that they reached the gates of Death.

Then they cried to Yahweh in their distress; * from their straits he rescued them.

He sent his word to heal them, * to relieve them of their boils.

Let these confess to Yahweh his mercy, * and his wonders to the children of men,

Let them offer sacrifices of thanks * and recount his deeds in joyful song.

As for those who cross the sea in ships, * carry on trade over the great waters,

they saw the works of Yahweh, * and his wonders with the abyss.

He commanded and raised the wind, * a storm which whipped up the waves.

They went up to heaven and down to the depths; * their throats trembled from peril.

They reeled and staggered like a drunkard, * and all their skill was swallowed up.

Then they cried to Yahweh in their distress; * from their straits he rescued them.

He stilled the storm to a whisper; * the waves that roared were hushed.

They rejoiced when they grew calm, * when he guided them to their port of trade.

Let them confess to Yahweh his mercy, * and his wonders to the children of men,

Let them extol him in the popular assembly, * and in the session of elders praise him.

He changed rivers into desert, * and springs of water into thirsty ground,

a land of fruit into salt flats, * because of the wickedness of those who dwelt there.

He changed desert into pools of water, * and parched earth into springs of water.

He settled the hungry there, * and they established a town to settle in.

They sowed fields, * and planted vineyards; * they harvested a fruitful yield.

He blessed them, and they greatly multiplied, * and their cattle he never let diminish,

but there diminished and declined from them * oppression, peril and sorrow.

He who poured contempt upon princes, * and sent them astray in a trackless waste,

set the pauper secure in his country, * and multiplied his clans like lambs.

Let the upright see and rejoice, * and every evil man shut his mouth.

Whoever is wise will take note of these things, * and they will consider the mercies of Yahweh.
